Welcome to our class blog! First: blog rules.

Testing, testing . . . OK, everyone, into the pool!  Let’s make this the place for your first blog contribution.  In your comment to this post, please confirm that you’ve read the blog rules and give me your suggestions, if any.

A note about blogging:  your comments and posts, once published, will never disappear completely, even if you delete them.  Given their searchable half-life, it is important that we comment and post carefully and thoughtfully.

After much consideration, I have made you folks “authors,” not “contributors,” which means that your comments and posts appear LIVE as soon as you hit “Publish.”  I would never want anything you do in this class to be cause for regret and embarrassment down the road.  So remember that this is a public place, not limited by school boundaries, and that what you say here you say to the world and you say it for good.

Feeling brave?  Go find a TED speaker or (school appropriate) YouTube video you admire and put up your own post embedding it and telling us why you like it.  Don’t forget to “tag” your post to relevant categories (your own name and AP Lang class, in this case) so it gets threaded properly.

I will not be insulted if anyone notices something missing (or amiss!).  Just let me know.  In the meantime, let’s have fun!

P.S.  Did anyone follow the hyperlink for the teacher to whom I gave attribution in the Blog Rules?  It’s got some interesting things to say about student bloggers.

Welcome to our class blog! First: Blog rules of the road

Testing, testing . . . OK, everyone, into the pool!  Let’s make this the place for your first blog contribution.

You Lang folks have an unprecedented amount of freedom and responsibility here:  your status is not “contributor,” meaning your comments and posts go to me first for approval before being published to the blog, but rather “author,” meaning you are blogging LIVE.  No filter.  No net.  That’s why it’s important that you read and think about the Blog Rules below.  There are a few risks, and I want you to be fully aware of them before you start posting.  Once out there, comments cannot ever be fully disappeared, even if they are deleted.  They have a searchable half-life that could haunt you later on if you are careless or impulsive now.  I do not want any of you to look back on this experience with regret.  The blog rules are intended to protect your privacy.

In your comment to this post, please confirm that you’ve read the blog rules and give me your suggestions for blog rules or guidelines, if any.    Note that the last-name ban is non-negotiable.  By district policy, your last names may not appear here for any reason.

I will not be insulted if anyone notices something missing (or amiss!).  Just let me know.  In the meantime, let’s have fun!

Feeling brave?  How about finding an argument presented in a TED talk or a YouTube video (school-appropriate of course) and embedding it in your own post?  It’s your blog:  take it and run with it.  By the way, don’t forget to tag your post to relevant categories (your own name, blog rules,  and AP lang class in this case) so it gets threaded properly (meaning it appears on the right page and you get credit for posting).  After you post, refresh, then check to see if it’s there.  If not, you may not have tagged the post properly.

P.S.  Did anyone follow the hyperlink for the teacher I gave attribution to in the Blog Rules?  It’s got some interesting things to say about student bloggers.

Blog Rules

Francis has already had to guide me through my own blog (sigh), so I will not be insulted if anyone notices something missing (or amiss!).  Just let me know.  In the meantime, let’s have fun!

P.P.S.  Have you been to Mr. Rodrigues’s blog ?  His blog roll (list of favorite websites) rules, and his page of links to literary journals is impressive.
