Artist Express – starting Wednesday, 10/26 – Volunteers needed

Artist Express is a an after school art program that was created by a former CHSN student, Heather Cazes.
The art program was created for students in the Ramapo School District, to have the opportunity to be creative and help them interact with the arts. The art program is still continuing to this day!
We will be starting up the program this year once again on Wednesday, October 26th from 4:15-5:15
During the program, we give students from 3rd to 7th grade, lessons on color, medium, crafts, etc. Every week is a different lesson. Volunteers are always welcomed to come and interact with the students in order to expand their creativitiy and knowledge of art. These hours will also count towards community service hours.

Opening of Fan Art Exhibit kicks off the student exhibit series

Each year students apply to become members of the Exhibit Committee of the Art Honor Society.  If accepted, they host a series of student run exhibits in the Library Gallery.  Exhibit Committee members are responsible for setting the themes, creating flyers for the call for work as well as the exhibit invitation, installing the show, hosting the reception and taking down the show.

For our first show, students chose the theme of Fan Art and Cos Paint.

Past Art Honor Society President Maggie Andresen, using photography to heal

NOLA children

As many of us struggle to make sense of the senseless acts of violence in Baton Rouge, St. Paul     and Dallas over the past week, North alumni Maggie Andresen uses photography to lend a hand.

Maggie (daughter of our Librarian, Mrs. Dickerson) took this photo in New Orleans during a protest march this weekend. Maggie is interning with the Times Picayune newspaper for the summer. Her photo was picked up by Associated Press and was featured as the closing picture on last night’s ABC world news and CNN’s newshour.

Maggie graduated CHSN in 2013 and is studying photo journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia.
