(You can control the path)

1. Light behind subject= silhouette
-How far away the light is, determines how dark the silhouette is

2. 1 light on side= strong directional shadows

3. 2 lights at some angle and height= minimize shadows

Photograms were first explored in the 1800’s by botanists and natural sciencetists. In the 1920’s Surrealist photographer Many Ray began exploring them as an art form.

For this assignments students will be exploring varying aspects of creating photograms. Students will bring in objects that varying in density to explore value changes in the photogram.  They will also bring in objects that have interesting silhouettes.  The first explorations will be creating interesting compositions useing objects brought in, and/or cut paper.  The second exploration will be using objects or images and text drawn on transparancies placed on top of a projected negative.  The third photogram will be student’s choice.
