Flash Photography for Pentex(non-popup flash)
About the flash:
- turn the dial on the bottom of the flash to the right to loosen
- needs 4 AA batteries
- when done using flash, take batteries out so the acid doesn’t leak
- to put flash onto camera, slide the flash from the back, forward
*** Flash takes over the shutter speed of a camera
Synck Speed:
- F-Stop should be set at 22
- symbol for flash is lightning bolt with arrow at bottom
***Must have shutter dial on 100(lightning bolt) when shooting with flash
***With flash photography, you do not need to check your light meter!!!
- generally the best position for flash is at a 45 degree angle
- to tone down the burn you get from the flash you can:
- put an index card on top of flash
- put a thin tissue over the entire flash
Distance from subject:
- on average, 6-10 feet is the farthest subject should get from camera
- don’t get much closer than 3-4 feet
***do not place yourself directly in front of a wall/background because it will create strong cast shadows!!
For self portrait:
- take some photos with flash and some with natural lighting
***remember: the ones with natural lighting should be taken outside!
