- Place negative in carrier and clean. (Clean by blowing warm air onto both sides and then wiping it with the orange cloth)

– Set f-stop you determined by looking at your test trip for that photo.

– Set timer to focus and check using the grain magnifier to make sure your photo is completely in focus. (Suggestion: find an edge of black and white to focus on)

– Once you have done the above you are ready to make your print!

– Lower enlarger to fit the 5×7 format (down to 30″).

– Set timer to time (and set the time you decided on the clock) and the power to off.

– Place the photo paper in the easel and then press power to on.

Congrats. You have just made your first print : )

Things to Remember:

*If your print is too light you need more light to pass through the negative so use a lower fstop #.

*If you have a thin density negative you need a higher fstop #.

*If you have a thick density negative you need a lower fstop #.

Reading Your Test Strip:

5 seconds= lightest and most faded

20 seconds=darkest

What to look for to determine the correct exposure time:

-sproket holes to almost disappear

-#s and words still white

*pick best time and print:

-at the same enlarger

-same f-stop

-for the amount of time determined by test strip

Reading Your Contact Strip:

-contact sheet tells you: wheter to use the F-stop from contact sheet for test strip for individual print,

-allows you to observe composition and focus
