Lincoln: A Photobiography by Russell Freedman
My favorite Lincoln book is too hard for a fourth grader. Do you like pictures? Russell Freedman takes old pictures of Lincoln, and then tells the story of Lincoln’s life around the picture. Want to watch Abraham Lincoln’s beard grow? Russell Freedman shows you how. The best way to read this book is to find a picture you like, then read about it. This book won the Newbery medal. If you like Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, this is the book for you. Mr. Frerichs.
We have two copies of this book in the Bardonia library. Photo credit: Lincoln Photograph by Matthew Brady, Brady Collection, American Memory, Library of Congress,

Ms. Feiner is recommending The Tale of Despereaux, the story of a sickly little mouse, who falls in love with a princess named Pea. In order to protect the princess from her enemy, Despereaux must face a rat-infested dungeon filled with sadness and certain death. In the story we also meet a variety of strange, funny. and complicated characters who play important parts in Despereaux’s quest to save the princess. I love the way the author sweeps you up into the story from the very first page. She writes like she is talking straight to you and no one else, and the story she has to tell is thrilling, funny, and emotional all at the same time. This is also a great book to read with an adult, because adults will love it as much as children.
