One of my favorite books as a child was
Charlotte’s Web by E.B White. I liked that all of the farm animals talked (because we know that they really do not) and that it was about a spider saving Wilbur the pig. This book was very well written. I say this because as I read it, I almost felt as if it was the middle of summer and that I was in the
Midwest, looking forward to the fair. Also, you had a good sense of the personalities of all of the farm animals especially Wilbur and Charlotte. It was the first time that I actually liked a spider, because I was always scared of them as a child. There have been many books since, but this will always remain one of my favorites.

Lincoln: A Photobiography by Russell Freedman
My favorite Lincoln book is too hard for a fourth grader. Do you like pictures? Russell Freedman takes old pictures of Lincoln, and then tells the story of Lincoln’s life around the picture. Want to watch Abraham Lincoln’s beard grow? Russell Freedman shows you how. The best way to read this book is to find a picture you like, then read about it. This book won the Newbery medal. If you like Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, this is the book for you. Mr. Frerichs.
We have two copies of this book in the Bardonia library. Photo credit: Lincoln Photograph by Matthew Brady, Brady Collection, American Memory, Library of Congress,
